Led by trombonist Stephen Walker and bassist Chisoo Kim, we bring together musicians from across New Orleans to make music rooted in tradition, shaped by collaboration, and meant to be shared.

We’re a band and musical collective dedicated to sharing the music of New Orleans as it is played today. Through live performances, recording sessions, and our online videos, we bring together musicians with different musical voices and a shared love of the tradition.
For us, it’s not just about playing the tunes. It’s about the people, the interaction, and the moments that make each performance its own.
Behind the Music
Stephen Walker
Stephen is a New Orleans trombonist, vocalist, arranger, and producer. He leads the musical direction of Swinging in New Orleans, bringing together musicians and shaping the performances and recordings that define the project.
Chisoo Kim
Chisoo is an upright bassist and vocalist who helps lead Swinging in New Orleans, connecting the musical and organizational sides of the project. From performing to developing recordings and digital content, she helps bring the music to audiences near and far.

Swinging in New Orleans works with a rotating circle of musicians, each bringing their own experience, personality, and musical voice. Different combinations create different conversations, keeping the music fresh while staying connected to its roots.
